Peacefull Reading and Falling Trees!

So, a couple weeks ago I got Eliza and Alex ready for church and want upstairs to finish getting ready. I left Mason on the living room floor and asked Eliza to keep an eye on him for a few minutes. When I came downstairs this is how I found them. I thought it was so cute I had to take a picture. It looks like Mason is really listening to Eliza read. He is pretty young for that but who knows!

During the night there had been a storm and Eliza said
she had heard a crash. When we looked out the window that morning we saw that the
tree right next to where the van was parked had fallen down. It wasn't on the van, thank goodness.

When we went out to go to church we saw that the tree had,
in fact, hit the van. Now we don't have a passenger side mirror and we have a few dents, scratches, and a crack. (It could have been a lot worse. We are grateful.)

The next day the maintenance guys came with chain saws and cut the rest off the tree down. When they were done, Eliza, Alex, and I went out and counted the rings on the stump and we found out the tree had been 21 years old. It was a very pretty tree, with lots of spring blossoms. We were very sad to watch them cut it down. On the bright side though they let us take some of the wood to burn in our fireplace next winter.

  1. I'm glad your car survived the falling tree branch with mostly minimal damage. We had a huge branch fall off our tree last fall which tore down a cable line and a power line, almost knocked over a power pole and eventually smashed our fence once it was cut off of the lines. Silly trees!

    Your kids are so cute!
